PEDRO MAKAY

Spain, Africa, the Caribbean, North America: All the "Colores" of World Music!

Pedro Makay, accompanied by his music, has traveled between the Old Continent and the Americas, exploring Calypso, African music, Flamenco, and Rhythm & Blues.

The artist has two albums to his name, one of which earned him a nomination for the Latin Grammy Awards. His latest work, Colores, released in Italy with Caligola Records, is an album that features eight of his own compositions and presents a sound inspired by folk roots, emerging from his collaborations and experiences with musicians from different cultures. His songs, with their distinctive and personal character, are timeless pieces that people can sing and appreciate anywhere, whether in a small town in northern Italy or a village in Southeast Asia.

The album is enhanced by the presence of American trombonist Norman Hogue, whose round sound enriches the delicate theme of “Vahine no te tiare,” a tribute to the painter Paul Gauguin. Additionally, the pyrotechnic trumpet of Miron Rafajlovic, featured on the track “Colores,” represents an extraordinary synthesis of the album.

A sunny and African atmosphere is breathed in the festive melody of “Volveré contigo cuando me quieras,” enriched by the voices of Gambian griot Abba Suso and Malian griot Oumou Bah, as well as in the hypnotic and fun “La mosca,” which features Syla Aboubakar. In “Caravana,” another significant African guest, Mohammed Elbouzidi, a specialist in guembri, can be heard.

Pedro Makay’s colorful “Colores” represent an injection of sunny joy, an electrifying and vital live performance for the audience… a show that evokes the southern hemisphere, dusty roads, and celebration!
